Our Service

We, the Numismatic Authentication and Imaging Company (NAIC), authenticate banknotes and preserve them in a rigid plastic cases. Two microscopic images are taken of each banknote and printed directly onto the label. This provides proof of our independent third‑party authentication while also highlighting the unique artistry of every note. We are able to create multiple different styles of labels for each banknote and highlight tiny aspects of a banknote that may otherwise go unnoticed.

Authentication Process

Most modern banknotes include a combination of visible and hidden security features such as watermarks, security threads, color‑shifting ink, microprinting, raised printing, holograms, and ultraviolet (UV) elements. We check these features to confirm authenticity. When possible, we also compare banknotes against our catalog of known authentic notes or similar notes from the same country and time period. We provide proof of authentication by printing images of each banknote directly on its label. This captures the microprinting on each banknote, which is often the hardest feature for counterfeiters to replicate.

Our Label

For each banknote that we authenticate, we provide a unique, non-standardized label. The front includes our company logo, details about the banknote, and an image of part of the banknote under a microscope. Multiple styles of labels are possible for each type of banknote depending on which feature we choose to showcase. We accept some requests for which features to put on the label, with the a requirement being that microprinting exists and is visible on that portion of the banknote. In cases where high-end counterfeits exist, we will sacrifice aesthetic appeal to showcase a portion of the banknote that contains the most security features or the most difficult security features to replicate. Certain types microprinting on modern banknotes are possible to replicate, while others are nearly impossible without very expensive printers that are only available to governments, and not to private parties.

The back of each label contains an image of the serial number. It will showcase all the microscopic details on and near the serial numbers. It will also link the label directly to the banknote that is inside the sealed slab.

Our Slabs

Each banknote is securely sealed between two sheets of rigid plastic. Our slabs use thicker plastic than most, making them sturdier and less flexible, resulting in a premium feel. We use industry‑standard inert plastic, which contains no additives that could release harmful chemicals over time. The plastic surface is soft, and will develop scratches and marks as it is handled. This is normal, as the slab’s purpose is to absorb wear from being handled, ensuring that the banknote inside remains preserved exactly as it was when sealed. Our slabs do not provide UV protection for the banknotes inside. We do not recommend keeping them in locations where sunlight consistently hits them. Years of consistent sunlight exposure can damage the pigments, paper, and other parts of a banknote.
